A major ransomware attack was noticed yesterday and has affected companies across the globe. Named WannaCry, this is a very serious threat to cybersecurity. CNN talks about it here.
While WannaCry was detected by many firewall and security providers weeks ago, the threat escalated recently with invasions into many large public companies and private organizations across the world. While ransomware – the act of hackers holding files in exchange for money to return the files – is nothing new, WannaCry has moved much more quickly than other similar threats.
The good news is, with BlueCore, an updated firewall to protect from threats like WannaCry is part of what we do for you every day. Our team consistently keeps all patches and updates current to combat this and other potential network attacks. WannaCry should not be an obstacle for your business.
One of the best products for this and other attacks is SonicWall, as it comes with the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite (CGSS). This means that with this product, you are covered with a single integrated package of security technologies designed to stop known threats. Some of the threats that are covered by SonicWall includes intrusions, viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans, adware, keyloggers, malicious mobile code (MMC), as well as others. More information about WannaCry is located at the SonicWall blog and more information about SonicWall as a service is here.
That’s not to say that it’s not imperative to be on guard for phishing emails at all times. Virus and ransomware threats often enter an organization through emails that seem legitimate. Never open links or attachments in emails that may seem suspicious, even if it appears to come from a trusted source.
If you’re concerned about WannaCry or other similar programs, or have questions about SonicWall or CGSS, feel free to contact our team. Remember, in the event of an attack, we have an on-call technician available 24/7.
